Re: Richard Attenborough buys the farm
Brighton Rock is still his best performance in front of the camera imho especially given his age but there were many 50s/60s lesser known films in which he was fantastic too eg Guns at Batasi, Angry Silence, Seance on a Wet Afternoon

Re: Richard Attenborough buys the farm
Great actor and film maker.

I'll remember him for Jurassic Park, 10 Riddlington Place, Great Escape, Brighton Rock, Gandhi, and A Bridge too Far.

He and his brother are genuine British institutions, sadly not too many of them of that stature left now.

Another Day, deffo worth a watch, black and white films sometimes lends a feeling of sinister that is sometimes lacking in colour

Re: Richard Attenborough buys the farm
Brighton Rock is definitely worth seeing.
Plays Pinkie just right and its hard to think of the actor on screen as the Richard Attenborough you know.

Re: Richard Attenborough buys the farm
I'd forgotten some of the great acting performances he'd put in (10 Rillington Place as Christie with John Hurt as Evans is a really underated film) and to follow up that career with what he achieved as a director and producer is amazing.
Also what comes through from all the tributes is what a really genuine guy he was and seemed to be loved by everyone he worked with.

Is Brighton Rock 1947 worth a watch?

I never knew what happened to his daughter and grand child, very sad.

I won't RIP him though, as I never knew him.

I agree regarding the 'buy the farm' comment.

Not really sure why so many people on here say it as it's completely lacking in any respect whatsoever and it's a truly awful saying.

Really sad news - What a great life and a fantastic impact on the world.

He was so immense as an actor on the screen. As Big X in the Great Escape, I will always remember him. Colossal.

Loved Gandhi and Cry Freedom. With those 2 films he made such a statement through the screen - fantastic gift.

Thanks for some wonderful memories and making such a contribution to this country.

Norway and Phil ... Totally Agee .. No matter what age there should be respect and that phrase is stupid. We had this with Robon Williams too (Hovis I believe) .... Let's just stick with "dead" or "RIP".

Re: Richard Attenborough buys the farm
Great actor and producer. Had the pleasure of meeting him, some years back. A real gentleman, as well as a legend. R.I.P.

I'm with Parkes, re the 'buys the farm'. Just 'is dead', would have been fine.
